Comics have evolved again - Are you sure?

Kenny at the FPI blog looks at the ad-cover for the latest CI and the article on phone-comics and prays it's not true.
All valid points and I can't see phone comics really working either.
Too limiting. Maybe it could work for 3 panel comic strips or single panels but would you really want to read the latest issue of Daredevil or Fell on it?

  1. Fell might actually work, given that the panels are usually of a standard size.

It does sound odd, but remember that we used to read months-long stories three panels at a time in the days of daily adventure strips in the newspapers.

  2. I think Mr. Flanagan might be right. things along the lines of Liberty Meadows, Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts or Evan Dorkin style stuff would be readable. This doesn't change the fact that I'm sure most people would still rather have a paper copy when it comes to their comics.

  3. and maybe I'm just being a luddite, but I think the important thing really is that comics on mobile phones are likely to get an entirely different audience to current readers.
Because I'm certainly not going to read a comic on an inch square screen, no matter how it works.
But "the kids" (whoever they are) may just go for it.

Good luck to Rok Comics and John Freeman particularly on this, but count me out.

I'll be back off to the cupboard now to light the candles for the night and put a record on the gramaphone player.
