John Welding & Goathland .......

quite beautiful diary piece from John Welding.

A post by Pete on nesting and memories of a fantastic mini comic from years back called Goathland has had me looking at John Welding's site & weblog tonight.

Goathland was one of the comics I took from Pete when he ran bugpowder as a small press distribution service. It always struck me then as a quite wonderful thing, full of perfectly observed minutiae of daily life in the wilds of the Yorkshire Moors.
Since then John's moved to Wakefield but is still producing delightful and profoundly gorgeous work. His latest diary work reminds me of Posey Simmonds in both linework and colour. There's just something about John's timing and style that I find delightful and relaxing. Nice to read his online diary pages to wind down from the day.

Sadly I don't think you can get any of John's work at the moment, but maybe they'll be more in the future?

  1. That particular piece also reminds me of Craig Thompson, especially "Carnet de Voyage".
