How much can an autoclave repair cost?

Our autoclave at school Broke the other week.
The autoclave is basically a big pressure cooker used to sterilise cultures for science so our kids can grow germs on the agar plates later.

We dutifully sent it off to get a quote. With me reassuring the Head of Science that it was probably the heating element that had gone and that the repair would be one or two hundred quid at most.

£618 +VAT.

A new one's only £787 +VAT.

This is going to be a fun conversation with the Head of Science tomorrow.
Oh well, never really wanted that pay rise after all.
