The Catholic Church now says you can go to hell for "excessive wealth". Oh, the irony.

Excessive wealth is one of those new "social" sins. Yes, that Catholic Church - not exactly the poorest of organisations.

The seven social sins are:

1. "Bioethical' violations such as birth control

2. "Morally dubious'' experiments such as stem cell research

3. Drug abuse

4. Polluting the environment

5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor

6. Excessive wealth

7. Creating poverty

(no mention of systematic child abuse in there though. Strange that.)

Although, if these are classed as mortal sins (and I've checked with the resident Catholic in the house on this) technically you're going to hell for taking a piss in a river.
