Tinnitus.

I've never really mentioned the Tinnitus before the post on the recent PTA disco.
I was diagnosed a while ago after noticing that I was getting a buzzing noise in my ears pretty much all the time. Tinnitus is a funny thing, as it managed to creep up on me slowly and stealthily, until one night I just couldn't ignore it any more.

I'm lucky really, as my tinnitus isn't particularly serious.
Annoying, but not too bad. I rarely notice it during the day, and at night it's only really noticeable when it's late at night and quiet. Or, like now, when I'm thinking about it.

Of course, what the doctors couldn't tell me was whether it was going to get worse as I get older or whether the level it's at now is as bad as it will get. I've read accounts of people almost driven to madness by the continual noise in their heads, noise that can barely be subdued by an overwhelming blast of white noise.

So I carry on, buzzing away. It's all my own fault of course. Too much loud music and too many gigs standing in the sweet spot where the speaker noise cones intersect to get the best, loudest sound.

  1. It isn't tinnitus, mate, its the voices in your head trying to be heard :-)
