Given the right opportunity, the motive, an untraceable gun & an iron clad guarantee that you wouldn’t get caught;
Could you pull the trigger?
That’s the simple concept behind Brian Azzarello & Eduardo Risso‘s Vertigo series 100 Bullets.
You’ve been wronged in some horrible & unforgivable way, when up pops the shadowy intelligence agent Mr Graves to offer you proof of guilt, a total protection & the gun. What to do?
Of course, there’s more to it than this. The series explores the complex history of Mr Graves & his organisation; the XIII: a shadowy, morally dubious group who act behind the scenes, higher than government & with more power than nations. A very complex conspiracy develops that leaves this reader gasping, desperately waiting for the payoff.
What could have been a formulaic series devoid of all originality is turned into a crime tour de force by the writing of Azzarello & the equally stunning artwork of Eduardo Risso. This is really great writing with plot & dialogue that crackles & burns with intensity. Azzarello carefully manipulates the pace to create tension, following a long, emotionally charged story with quieter, shorter chapters that slowly draw us into the conspiracy.
